Help & Guide

Learn how to get the most out of HomeVault. Follow these step-by-step guides to set up your home inventory.

Getting Started

1

Create Your First Home

When you open HomeVault for the first time, you'll be prompted to create your first home. Give it a name (e.g., "My Apartment") and optionally add an address. You can add more homes later from Settings → Manage Homes.

2

Set Up Rooms

HomeVault comes with common room templates (Kitchen, Bedroom, Living Room, etc.). You can customize these in Settings → Room Templates. Add, rename, or remove rooms as needed.

3

Add Your First Item

Tap the "+" button on the dashboard or inside a room. Enter the item name, select a category, and optionally add brand, model, serial number, and purchase price. You can always add more details later.

Photos & Attachments

4

Attach Photos

Open any item and tap "Add Photo" in the Attachments section. You can take a new photo or choose from your library. Photos are automatically compressed using WebP format to save storage space.

5

Attach Receipts & Documents

Tap "Add File" to attach a receipt photo, PDF manual, or warranty document. Each file can be up to 5 MB. Free plan allows 3 photos + 1 file per item; Premium allows 5 photos + 3 files.

6

Set a Cover Photo

Long-press any photo attachment to set it as the cover photo. The cover photo appears on the item card in lists and on the dashboard for quick visual identification.

Warranties & Maintenance

7

Add a Warranty

In any item detail, scroll to "Warranty" and tap "Add Warranty." Enter the end date and set a reminder (e.g., 30 days before expiry). HomeVault will send you a notification before the warranty expires.

8

Create Maintenance Schedules

Tap "Add Maintenance" to create a recurring schedule. Choose a frequency (every X months or days), set the next due date, and HomeVault will remind you when maintenance is due. Mark it complete to automatically schedule the next occurrence.

Overview

HomeVault ("we," "our," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal information.

Information We Store

HomeVault stores the following data that you provide:

  • Home records: home names, addresses, room configurations
  • Item records: names, brands, models, serial numbers, purchase dates, prices, notes
  • Attachments: photos, receipts, warranty documents, and other files you attach
  • Schedules: warranty dates, maintenance schedules, and reminder settings
  • Categories: custom categories you create

By default, all data is stored locally on your device only.

Cloud Sync (Optional)

If you are a Premium subscriber and choose to enable cloud sync:

  • Your data is synced to Firebase (Google Cloud) servers
  • Authentication is handled via Sign in with Apple — we receive a unique identifier and optionally your email
  • Your data is stored under your unique user ID and is not shared with other users
  • Photos are compressed before upload to reduce storage and bandwidth

You can sign out at any time to stop syncing. Local data remains on your device.

How We Use Your Data

  • To provide the core app functionality — storing, organizing, and reminding you about your home items
  • To sync data between your devices (if cloud sync is enabled)
  • To process subscription purchases through Apple's App Store

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties.

Permissions

  • Camera & Photo Library: used only to attach photos to items. We do not access your library without your action.
  • Notifications: used for warranty and maintenance reminders. You can disable in iOS Settings at any time.
  • Files: used to import documents you select. We do not scan your file system.

Analytics

The current version of HomeVault does not include any third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. If analytics are added in the future, this policy will be updated and you will be notified.

Data Deletion

You can delete individual items, homes, or all data from within the app at any time. If you use cloud sync, signing out and deleting your data from the cloud can be done from Settings. You may also contact us to request complete data deletion.

Children's Privacy

HomeVault is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

By downloading, installing, or using HomeVault ("the app"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

2. Description of Service

HomeVault is a home inventory management app that allows you to record, organize, and track household items, warranties, maintenance schedules, and related documents.

3. Account & Authentication

  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings
  • Refunds are handled by Apple according to their refund policy

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use HomeVault only for its intended purpose — managing your home inventory. You agree not to:

  • Attempt to abuse the service by uploading excessive amounts of data beyond normal household use
  • Use the app to store illegal, harmful, or infringing content
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code
  • Circumvent or interfere with any security or access control measures

  • You can delete your data from the app and from cloud storage at any time

  • Loss of data due to device failure, app updates, or cloud sync issues
  • Missed warranty deadlines or maintenance reminders due to notification delivery failures
  • Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the app

We recommend keeping important documents in multiple locations and not relying solely on any single app for critical records.

8. Changes to Service

We may modify, update, or discontinue features of HomeVault at any time. Major changes will be communicated through the app or this website. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to cloud services for accounts that violate these terms. Local data on your device is always yours and will not be affected.
